“It is clear that visitors have long been attracted to places or events associated in one way or another with death, disaster and suffering” (Sharpley 2009:5). Therefore, dark tourism is the movement and travel of people to places associated with death and disaster. Throughout the world there are many locations, sites and attractions; each having their own history and unique story as to why it has become a site associated with death and disaster, or, known as a dark tourism site.

 

Interpretation means a way of trying to explain the meaning of something, describing the setting and the story of what occurred in the past.

Representation is the description or portrayal of someone or something in a particular way, or characterising something that happened.
